Every child dreams of what they want to be when they grow up. Some dreams are practical like becoming a firefighter, teacher, or doctor because that's what their parents do. And some dreams are more wishful like being a princess, mermaid or superhero, but even those wishful dreams exist to some capacity in today's world outside of fairy tales. For me, I dreamed of being a Sailor Guardian, PowerPuff Girl, princess, and Pokémon Trainer. But of course, those dreams could only exist in my imagination, which I am okay with. Aside from those wishful dreams, I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up because I loved playing school with my stuffed animals. However, that changed when I started middle school and discovered Project Runway and my favorite movie: Devil Wears Prada. Fashion was something I always loved. I adored dressing up and drawing people and clothes. I was fascinated by the fashion world and watching designers breathe life into their creations. From then on, I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer.

I committed to that dream: attending a 3 week fashion illustration course over the summer, taking sewing classes in high school and college, and eventually attending FIDM for Merchandise Product Development. Along the journey, I realized I no longer wanted to compete on Project Runway like my pre-teen self wanted. As much as I enjoy sewing, I will admit I am still a novice sewer and have a lot to learn. Instead, what I wanted was to start my own clothing brand. Working in the fashion industry helped me realize that dream. Don't get me wrong; my experience working in the industry was amazing! I learned so much about the ins and out of running a successful brand that no amount of schooling could teach. On top of that, I found friendships in some of my coworkers and bosses, who have encouraged me to pursue that dream.

With that said, dreaming is easy, but starting... that's the hard part. I have a name picked and a handful of designs I want to create, but without an audience, who do I sell to? One of the first lessons I was taught in my college marketing class was identifying my target market. Once the target market is identified, the next step is to advertise: my worst nightmare. I've never been the best sales woman or the best communicator, so marketing and advertising was the one aspect of my dream that I purposefully ignored and avoided. But, like I said before, without an audience, who do I sell to? Friends and family, sure, but if I want my clothing brand to extend outside of my circle, marketing is required. Social media is the obvious choice, but honestly, I'm a little intimidated at the idea... maybe even a little scared. Doubts aside, after taking a year away from social media in 2018, I haven't been able to get back into it like before. Which, in hindsight, is a good thing for my mental health, but for my brand, maintaining a presence on social media is essential to its growth.

One thing I do love, though, (and I think I’m fairly good at) is writing. If I couldn't be a fashion designer, writing would have been my next ambition. Writing stories has always been a hobby of mine. I practically live in my imagination, so stories come naturally to me. Unlike speaking, I'm able to communicate my words and thoughts so much better in writing. And even though I would love to be as well-spoken in person or in videos as I am via text, that's not the kind of person I am right now. I hope one day I will be; but until then, I am more comfortable sharing my story in writing.

Introducing Roseish: an upscale women's clothing brand with a mission. What is our mission? To create clothing and care for the planet. As a fashion student and former technical designer, I am more than aware of the negative effects the fashion industry (especially fast fashion) has on the planet. Currently, the apparel industry is the world's second most polluter with dyeing &amp; finishing, yarn preparation, and fiber production as the three main drivers for the industry's contribution in global pollution. Fashion production accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions only to have 84% of clothing produced annually end up in landfills or incinerators. As the problem grows, more brands have stepped up to make a difference. Sustainability is at the top of many fashion brands' minds nowadays. So the next question is, what is Roseish doing to take care of the planet?

Well, for starters, we are a carbon neutral company. This is something I learned about recently, but basically it means that every product we sell will be carbon positive. Every year, we pay a company that will remove any amount of carbon emissions released over the year from the atmosphere. To make this possible, we work closely with our production factory and fabric suppliers to get an estimate of how much carbon emissions they emit to make our products. In full transparency, unfortunately this process is not practiced by many factories or supplies right now, so we will not be able to get exact amounts, but I can promise that our estimate will always be rounded up to ensure that any unaccounted for emissions will be covered. In addition, another goal is for every product to be traceable back to the source. Although, producing overseas would probably be significantly cheaper, it would also be slightly more challenging to track. So in order to reach that goal, we're keeping our production and sourcing as close to home as possible. Over time we hope to perfect these processes, but we’re just getting started.

Roseish is more than your typical upscale women's clothing brand. We are dedicated to creating quality clothing while caring for the planet by offsetting all our carbon emissions and reducing waste as much as possible.
